This recipe is very typical for an American kitchen, and although it is usually aimed at children many adults feel trapped by the taste, ease of preparation and especially for the huge quantity of calories it provides. It is for this reason that consumption should be moderate.
Ingredients (4 people):
14 oz / 400 grams of macaroni
14 oz / 400 grams of cheddar cheese (or other semi-fat cheese that you can find)
2 cups of whole milk
Butter
Salt
Pepper
Boil the macaroni in plenty of water (1 gallon / 4 liters in this case since it is a liter of water /4 cups for every 3.5 oz / 100 grams of pasta) with a handful of salt. We let them al dente, so follow the manufacturer's instructions on the matter.
Once cooked pasta, remove from heat, drain them and set aside.
Greased with butter a deep dish that can go to the fire and put a first layer of macaroni in the bottom. We salt and pepper slightly and the cover macaroni with thin slices of cheddar and some butter.
We extend again another layer of macaroni and back covered with cheddar cheese and some butter and until the ingredients are exhausted but finish top of the stack with cheese (remember seasoning each layer lightly).
Pour the milk over all layers.
Preheat oven to 375 F / 190 degrees and enter the dish. It must be baked for one hour. It will be ready when you show lightly browned on top.
A simple and spectacular recipe but with many calories, so take it carefully !
