An amazing dessert to impress your guests or family thanks to its shocking presentation. It is also very easy to do.
INGREDIENTS (4 people):
1 sheet puff pastry
4 pears not very ripe and not very large (but not small)
200 grams (7 oz) of sugar
100 grams (3.5 oz) of honey
50 grams (1.7 oz) of nuts (optional)
4 cinnamon sticks
1 lemon
1 egg
First we peel the pears without removing the stem - the grace is that they keep it - and we discourage them. To do this task you can buy a device that removes the hearts of apples, pears and other fruits or do it patiently with a knife. Be careful not to remove the whole heart because then the stem would not be sustained with anything and would not be visible. Ok, it's silly, but it's the "detail" of this dessert.
In a large casserole we add the sugar, the lemon peel without the white part, the juice of the same half lemon in addition to the cinnamon sticks and honey. Add a cup of warm water (200 ml) and dissolve the sweeteners. Add the pears and add a little more water if it does not cover them at all.
We put the casserole over medium heat and while stirring we boil for about 20 minutes until the pears soften. Once this happens we remove the pears and reserve the syrup, removing the lemon peel (which is discarded) and the cinnamon sticks (which are reserved).
We preheat the oven to 180 degrees celsius (356 F).
If we want we can fill the hollow of the pears with crushed nuts, to taste.
We cut the puff pastry plate into strips of about two fingers wide. We will get 4 strips, one for each pear. With them, and spiraling, we roll the pears from the wide part to the stem. If we have put nuts, make sure the puff pastry covers the base.
We paint the four pears with eggs so they are bright.
We take to the oven and keep about 25 minutes, or until they are bright.
While the pears are made we will heat the liquid until a thick syrup remains - but not too much -.
We take out the pears and bathe them with the syrup, serving with a cinnamon stick to the diner, if possible warm but not cold. You won't tell me it's not an impressive dessert.
